How To Prevent Scuffs While Parking

When there’s not much room to park your car and manoeuvring is difficult it is sometimes inevitable that you might scuff it. It’s usually the bumper that gets scuffed first then the wings. Most car body scuffs are caused while parking and not from collisions on the road, it’s when someone misjudges the width of their car or that of someone else’s when accidents like bumper scuffs can happen. It’s virtually impossible to prevent a scuff from occurring we can only reduce the possibility of an impact.

How to prevent bumper scuffs

80% of scratches on bumpers are caused by parking so try and park in areas away from everyone else and in larger spaces, it might mean an few minutes’ walk to where you are going but will save you money in the process. If you have difficulty when parking in your garage and always seem to catch the bumper, try and place old bits of carpets on the walls or areas where you usually make contact with, this will help prevent the bumper from being scratched.

If you have tried all the techniques above and still seem to get damage then you are either very unlucky or a magnet for trouble. The only fool proof way of preventing scuffs that are self inflicted would be to have sensors fitted to both the front and rear bumpers these give you ample notification of an objects distance and proximity to your car.
